The community of Nkoabe has not been the same since the introduction of the Unite for a Better Life Cameroon program. We all look forward to Mondays and Thursdays, for the next discussion. The topics we have discussed throughout the three months have pushed us to search within us what kind of men and women are? What example are we mirroring to our children? We deeply hope to see Leap Girl Africa in the near future, please do not forget us and remember that Nkoabe is your home.
I have learnt that there is a difference between helping at home and participating at home, for example, I no longer view kitchen chores as solely for my wife. Learning about gender boxes and understanding how profitable it is to live out of it has brought positive change in my home and even in my place of work, with my employees. Another aspect I have understood from this program is that joint decision making will lessen the psychological burden of worrying whether or not my decision is good and if there are ever fall-outs , I do not have to worry about them by myself because my partner will be able to brainstorm with me on possible solutions.
I used to be inconsiderate of details in marriage but through UBL I have learnt that paying attention to details in my marriage is important to avoiding problems.
As far as comms is concerned, there were things I used to ignore but within the program, I learnt to give it a lot of importance. Communication goes with every aspect of marriage. That is a strong lesson I want to take away from this UBL program.
